A. You can follow the following three simple steps to see the status of your tax refund.
Step 1. Search IRS.gov
Use key word search "where is my refund". You can do this within 24 hours of filing electronically or four weeks after mailing a paper return. IRS also has a refund hotline 800-829-1954.
Step 2. Enter your information
You can enter the following information:
- Your social security or individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN)
- Your filing status (single, married filing jointly, married filing separately, head of household, or qualifying widow)
- Your exact amount of refund (you should have this amount on your Federal tax return)
Step 3. Get the status
After the above two steps, you should get a response like one of the following:
- Return received
- Return approved
- Refund sent
If you receive a notice that the IRS has been unable to deliver your refund because or an incorrect address, you can use the online tool to make a change. You'll also receive information on how to start a trace if you haven't received your refund within 28 days of filing your return.
